A recap of a great day!!

bigpicWhat a great day was had by all those lucky enough to be attending Puckrup’s 25th Anniversary Golf and Dinner Dance last Saturday, all of which was a direct result of 6 months hard planning. The day was officially opened by 3 of our well respected founder members, Neil Short, Trevor Cross & Major Mike Wilson. All three were had feelings of trepidation as they made their way to the 18th to take their tee shots thus allowing the proceedings to commence; the crowd of 150 staring back, all having high expectations did nothing to ease the situation. If only they had known that during the day only 9 out of 121 players would make the green then we are sure their fears would have subsided, so well done Mr Cross, we doff our golfing caps!!! With all 27 teams in position at their allocated tee for the klaxon at 12.30 the day began!!! Not only would players have to play their best golf ever, but also have their brains taxed with questions, each one relating to the club itself, various rules and the odd abstract picture of the course thrown in for good measure!! When reaching the Halfway House we were all invited to fill our faces with BBQ food in the form of burgers, hotdogs and salads, laid on courtesy of Hilton and accompanied with refreshments, kindly served by Lesley Eckersley & Julia Caton and if that wasn’t enough the same refreshments were offered again at the 18th by Sam Schiaffino and Sue Tombs. After the events of the day we were all encouraged to make our way to the Ballroom for the main prize giving and raffle, the combined quiz and golf scores added together would determine the results and so in 1st place was Dan Finch, Lisa Finch, Alan Finch & quite fittingly Trevor Cross, 2nd place going to Mark Booth, Steve Spiers, Andrew Pearson and the Club Captain and 3rd place going to Pete Meadowcroft, Joe Spiers, Paul Vedmore and Barry Jenkins. The 1st prize for the raffle of a years supply of Titleist Pro V1 golf balls was scooped by a delighted Paul Vedmore. With the main prize giving over we were then all spoilt for choice by a delicious savoury buffet followed by an array equally delicious desserts, accompanied with an excellent live band for entertainment, an extremely annoying magician, because no one could work out how he did what he did!!! and a generous sprinkling of Mr John Doyle ?? I would like to take this opportunity in thanking all those people for making a day like this possible, especially to my Vice Captain Gary Eckersley and our Chairman Barry Jenkins, but especially to you the membership for all your appreciation and acknowledgement so far this year.
