Team Golf

Captain - Gary Eckersley

The records show that the league was first contested in 1955 between Cotswold Hills, Minchinhampton, Cirencester and Lilley Brook. Puckrup Hall joined in 1997 when the league was split into three divisions of six teams.
Matches consist of twelve players in a team, playing six foursomes’ match play games off scratch. In each match, 2 points are awarded for a win, one point for a halved match. Each Club is played twice, one home match and one away match.

The NGFL Cup is played at the end of each season. This is a scratch medal foursome’s event in which each club enters four pairs, with the best three scores to count and the fourth score used to decide in the event of a tie (similar to the Lister Cup). The order in which each club is requested to host this event is alphabetical.
On the same day of each League match, there is a reciprocal friendly ‘B’ team match.

B Team - Captain Rob Dore

These are played on the same day and against the same Club as the A Team. So, if the A Team are playing at home, the B Team plays away and vice versa. The squad is made up of 12 players and sign up sheets are produced for each match to give everyone who is not playing for the A Team the opportunity to play in a match. The format for the matches is 4 Ball Betterball.

Ladies Section

Puckrup Ladies will be fielding a league team for the first time this year since the golf course was opened in 1992.

The CDLGA (Cotswold and District Ladies Golf Alliance) is introducing a 'pilot' handicap league to complement the established scratch league.

The pilot provides a fabulous opportunity for our lady golfers to play competitive golf as the format embraces the challenges that clubs, like us, with smaller lady memberships have. With teams of six, playing 4BBB either home or away to six other clubs, on a date convenient to both teams, Puckrup Hall GC were delighted to accept the invitation from the Alliance to take part.

Presidents Cup Match 16.04.2017 v Ross

The Team was Captained by Rich Davis with Phil Mason, Nick Axten-Rice, Steve Boulton, Ian Smith, Rob Dore, Paul Vedmore. Joe Spiers, Simon White & Dave Onions.

Rich said:-
‘We gathered with great expectations on a cold afternoon at Ross but soon found out that a home draw was worth a two-hole head start. The first two groups got a lesson in how to play around a tight course but Joey and Paul managed a half on the last and Ian and Steve had a well-deserved win 3&1. The last group of Rob and Dave (very late stand in, thank you) also got a lesson from a 10 year old. Thank you everyone for playing, we tried but not quite good enough.’

The Match was won by Ross 3 ½ - 1 ½

Daily Mail Foursomes 2018

Men’s Team – Bill & Andy Benson

Unfortunately due to the bad weather they were unable to play their match against The Worcestershire. The organisers advised that several matches had not been played and as there is no extension allowed, they tossed a coin. Sadly Puckrup Hall lost the toss and did not go through.

Men’s Team - John Vickridge & Jamie Forster

Round 1 – Puckrup Hall v Rodway Hill – Lost 3 & 2

Warren & Dan from Rodway got off to a fast start with Puckrup never level after the 1st hole! Rodway didn't drop a shot until 6 (which was still good enough for the half!) and turned in 38 - not too shabby for a 16 & 8 handicapper in foursomes. It was no surprise to learn that Dan had won Rodway's club champs last year with a net 58 as he hit every fairway and green on the front 9 to leave Rodway 3UP at the turn, a lead that would have been larger had the Puckrup duo not holed long putts on 5, 7 & 9.

A nice birdie from Puckrup on 10 gave a glimmer of hope but 2 missed chances on 13 & 14 meant Rodway stood on 16 tee dormy 3. A tidy up and down for par was enough to give Rodway a well deserved 3&2 victory.

Round 2 - Puckrup Hall V Rodway Hill - Won 4 & 3

Hils Paul and Hilary Hatt played the second round of the Daily Mail Foursomes on 12 April 2017 away at Rodway Hill. They were delighted that they won the match 4 and 3. Hils Paul said ‘Tough course, especially the greens, which did not hold. We played with two extremely nice ladies, which makes all the difference.’

The next round will be against South Herefordshire.
